Fuel Pump Issue

After 3,500 miles i'm finally starting to show signs of the fuel pump issue. From time to time it won't start on the first try anymore. I turn the key and listen for the pump to fully engage then I hit the starter and no go. Then I hear the pump starting up again and it usually starts then on the second attempt. I've had it take upwards to 4x once. The only time it took that many times was last week when I ran a bunch of errands and it sat out in the hot parking lots. That day it actually cut off on me twice while in traffic but started right back up imediately while I was still on it. Other than that it never sits in the sun. I keep it in my garage and where I park it at work is shaded all day long.

Anyone else on here with a Z125 have a run in with the fuel pump issue?

from what i understand yamaha now has a new part number for the fuel pump they have been a buch of guys over on zf with it there is a few threads about it

Indeed. I read that today. I really hope that mine completely craps out on me before I finally get my Atlantis running (waiting on money for parts) seeing as how the Zuma is my only way to get around.

Is it under warranty? Unfortunately, along with some very expensive electronics, a fuel injected engine also requires a very expensive high pressure electric fuel pump. I sure love the Vino 125's simple gravity feed and carburetor. Jerry.

Yup. 1 year warranty. Haven't had any problems in awhile now though.

FS, I would demand your local Yamaha dealer replace the fuel pump. You're living on borrowed time. When the fuel pump finally dies, you'll really be stuck.

I've asked them in the past a couple of times if they've had anybody bring their scoot in because of this problem and they told me they haven't yet. They said that they're aware of the issue though and can't do anything until it actually does crap out on me.

if it doesnt crap out on you and your warranty is getting close to running out, run it dry on 36v until it burns up. with no fuel to cool it, it shouldnt last long.

A lot of the Yamaha C3 owners over at <www.C3rider.com> were experiencing similar, (and worse!) symptoms with the pump on the '07 model. I researched a phone number for "Yamaha Customer Relations," that folks have been calling and getting new pumps installed parts and labor. If you'll call 1-800-962-7926 at the time of day where you are so that it's between 0800 and 1000 hrs in California, there's a nice Lady on the board that knows what she's doing amd she's been helping owners (C3 anyway) get new pumps.You have to be patient, and persistant! One guy tried and tried and tried to reach her. Finally in desperation, he got their mailing address from an operator and wrote a letter addressed to,"The nice Lady that knows what she'd doing concerning the '07 Yamaha C3's fuel pump issues." And included his phone number. Several days passed and they called him and made arrangements to replace his fuel pump! Be sure to have youe vin # handy when you call. It doesn't matter if you're the third Owner, or your scoot's a year out of warrenty. This is a Safety Issue, Yamaha knows it, and should've recalled all of these pumps that are probably on a bunch of different scoots! If enough of you having problems pester them enough, like the widow lady stayed after the unrighteous judge in the Bible, You'll get results! Gabe

Float Carb> diaphragm Carb> FI in reliability.

the only reason why they have FI now is because of emissions.... on a scooter? politicans have nothing to do anymore.

But FI is much better for tuning. You should get a mega squirt.

1. FI gives more economy vs car'b engine and is cleaner burning.
2. FI is extremely reliable I mean after all cars typically go their whole lives on one set of injectors, fpr, and fuel pump. If FI is not reliable for Yamaha, it means that they are cheaping out on parts quality, nothing more. Larger bikes have been FI for a while now and they suffer no ill effects....

I was going to buy a zuma 125 to replace my vino 125 beucase it's a little more comfortable but no way I am gonna do that now since it is NOT a reliable bike. Fuel pump, dead batteries, etc......

Maybe this post will be of some help to other forum members.

I'm the second owner of a 2009 Zuma 125cc scooter with only 375 miles. Scooter is out of one year factory warranty by several months. Several weeks ago scooter started having fuel pump starting issues similiar to those I've read about on the Zuma forum. Fuel pump would not come on to pressurize the system which caused the scooter to not start. This happens randomly may start OK for days and then you go to turn key on you do not hear the fuel pump come on. Called Yamaha factory service at 800-952-7926 was told to take in to my local dealer. Unloaded at my dealership and scooter started fine service tech rode it around parking lot for 5 minutes came back and would not restart. You could not hear or feel the pump come on. He tells me he will check it out and will call the Yamaha tech line and see if they will cover the repair. One week later service techs calls and said he can't dulicate the problem and that he has checked out all wiring and electical connections and the battery and everything is OK. Go down to pick up scooter and decide to ride it around for a few minutes to try to dulicate problem. Make a 2 mile loop and return to dealer and scooter will not start. Service tech said he will call Yamaha Tech line and discusss the issue. Two hours later service tech calls and tells me the good news that Yamaha will repair the fuel pump under the Emmisions Warranty. Service tech said after 9 years he has never heard of a repair under the Emmisions

Follow up on my 09 Zuma 125. Picked up my scooter last Friday from my local Yamaha dealer they replaced the fuel pump at no cost to me even those it was out of warranty by 7 months. It was covered by the Emmisions Warranty. Service tech told me it looked like Yamaha had made some changes to the fuel pump.
