i dunno if you can, but finding some bigger wheels, like 13s at least, and getting some good lo-pro tires on them, would be a damn good idea if ur gonna be doing highway speeds at all... my dad has a chinese 150 on tires just like urs, and that thing scares the hell out of me. lol...

I did quite a distance of two-up riding on I-74 at 65-70mph, and it felt really solid. Remember, this bike is much smaller than today's huge maxi-scooters. Think of the Elite 250 as 1.25:1 scale 50cc frame with five times the displacement.

Also, there isn't that much clearance between the rear tire and the inner fender. Maybe someday, though...

i know theyre ok at that speed, it just scares the hell out of me goin that fast on a tire that small and that shitty shape, instead of a performance tire. lol... as long as ur comfortable with it tho, thats what matters the most.

So, an update:

I ordered some Michelin S1 tires from motorcycle-superstore.com. I paid $32.99 each for the 100/90/10 tires, got free shipping, and used a $5 off coupon. I also ordered a new helmet with the same shipment.

I found a retired guy in Tolono, IL who installs motorcycle and scooter tires for pretty cheap. I'm a bit wary of riding on old tires, but my tires aren't supposed to get here until Thursday, so I might take a couple short rides between now and Thursday.

Yeah, I bet the bike will handle better with these tires too. Even with racing tires, an Elite won't be a corner carver, but at it will be safer. I'm hoping to get 6000-10000 miles of safe use out of these tires.

If you ride your Honda much, it might not be a bad idea for you to get some of these tires too. Motorcycle Superstore has 90/90/10 (equivalent to 3.50-10) Michelin S1 tires for $22.99!

Hey there everyone My name is Phil. I have been reading this thread from front to back for the last hour or so. It has been a very interesting read for me and very informative.

I am about to purchase a used probably beat up Honda Elite 250 exactly the same as the one in the pics in this thread but burgundy instead of black not that paint matters since I will paint it anyway lol.

My concern has been whether or not it will be very difficult fix or not and since I really have no idea how bad it is I have to treat carefully. According to the present owner it needs a battery, carb clean and tune up because its been sitting for 6 years so perhaps you gents and ladies can help me out a bit.

I did notice that everything on the bike is pretty much standard and relatively easy to grasp and being a former small engine mechanic for lawnmowers gives me a little of a head start.

Any ideas what to be looking for in regards to bad news when looking at this bike on friday? Anything that would stand out or perhaps not stand out unless you know where to look? As I am new to the scooter buz I am learning as I go and with little cash can't afford a mistake but need a ride that will last once fixed so any help would be great!!

Please feel free to respond here or better yet email me if you like pculp2@gmail.com Also if I purchase the bike I will be very happy to post it on here just like in this thread to have a record of my work and progress.

Well that all for now and oh DUDE Great job on the bike dude she looks good and I am very happy to hear you have her running just right now. Your info you added is helpful cause I will probably need everything you had to purchase as well lol. If you can give me a total cost of roughly what it cost you that would be helpful. Bear in mind I am in canada but that don't really matter all the prices for parts are usually the same regardless.

Hope your still having fun on your ride dude and good luck.

Phil

The size is what attracts me to the Elite 250. It's actually scooter size. Glad you were able to find that carb gasket, I hope it doesn't need too many oem parts because many are no longer available. That's what drew me to the Stella, among a lot of other things. Parts should be available for quite some time. Best of luck with that Elite. Jerry.
