Will an 06 motor fit in an 04?

Postby ALL_MOUNTAIN » Sat Jan 30, 2010 4:14 pm

My 04 motor is shot, the crank wiggles and there are metal chunks in the oil plug. I can find a 06 motor but it looks a little different where the carb mounts up. Will this swap work or is there something else I should look at dropping in there?

The Service Manual hasn't changed over the years so I'd assume the motor hasn't. Thats my best guess though and I'm not 100% sure...only 99.9%

with any swap even if it is from the sam make and modle i recomend getting as much of the donor scoot as possible
this is more important in mor complex swaps but there could be slight changes that dont warrant a new service manual ie new intake enhanced eletronics wireing changes
and if it was fi you must always get the wire harness and computer but this doesnt apply here

My 2009 and 2005 were identical except for the minor seat styling (although still interchangeable). For model years 2004 vs 2006 I did a quick Yamaha micro fiche P/N check, cylinder head, manifold and carb are the same part for both years. So all years, all the same.
